About Pathways Training, HullTraining that treats you like an adult
Ten years, several thousand cards, and one stubborn belief, that the people who find training hardest are the ones who most need it done well.
Our story
It started because the training was terrible
Pathways began after one too many days spent in a windowless room watching someone read ninety slides to a room of people who had already stopped listening. Everybody got a certificate. Almost nobody learned anything.
The construction industry deserved better than attendance-as-training, so we started doing it differently, with smaller groups, real site examples, and an actual conversation instead of a lecture. Ten years on, that hasn't changed.
Today we run weekly CSCS courses in Hull, with the CITB test centre directly across the road, monthly dates at our other venues, and on-site delivery for employers anywhere that'll have us.
Kevin still teaches most of the courses himself, and still answers the phone. That is deliberate.

98%
first-time pass rate on the CITB HS&E test in 2026, published rather than claimed.
What we hold ourselves to
- Every course capped at eight learners
- Regulated, nationally recognised qualifications only
- Reasonable adjustments arranged for you, not by you
- Free resit on the premium package
- Prices that include everything, with no VAT on top
How we work
Three things we won't budge on
Everything else is negotiable: timings, venue, pace. These three aren't.
Eight people, maximum
Not a target. A hard cap. It is the single biggest reason our pass rate is what it is, and the first thing we'd cut if we cared more about margin than results.
Nobody reads aloud
Ever. If you want to, fine. But being asked to read a paragraph to a room of strangers is the fastest way to lose someone who already thinks training isn't for them.
We'll tell you if you're not ready
Putting someone in front of an exam they're going to fail earns us the same money and costs them their confidence. We'd rather move the date.
Neurodiversity
A provider that gets it
A lot of people arrive having been failed by a classroom once already. We build the day so that isn't the thing that stops them.
On the course
- Nobody is asked to read aloud
- Materials in a clear, uncluttered layout, printed on request
- Breaks when the room needs them, not when the clock says so
- Quiet space available if you need five minutes
On the test
- Voiceover available on the CITB HS&E test
- Extra time and a reader where it applies
- We make the arrangements, so you don't have to explain yourself twice
- One-to-one route if a test room is the sticking point
